Kuji※1 is on Google Play today. The full release is slated for Friday 28 August, but you can pre-register now.

It settles the argument nobody enjoys having. Someone has to go first. Someone has to be on Jamie's team. And the bins aren't going to take themselves out.

Everyone puts a finger on the screen, colour blooms from each one, and one of them floods the room. Takes about a second, and it's very hard to argue with.

FIG. 01 — LET KUJI DECIDE

What it settles

Picking one winner is the obvious trick. Kuji also pulls several at once when you want a shortlist, splits a room into teams, and hands out a numbered running order so nobody has to remember whose go it was.

No hands free? Save a list of names once and draw from that instead. Your class, your team, your household. It keeps for next time.

About that fairness

We could've used the cheap random number generator. It's one line of code, it's fast, and nobody would ever have known. That's exactly the problem: you can't tell a fair picker from a rigged one by looking at it. You take its word, or you don't.

So Kuji uses the cryptographic generator your phone already has, the one it keeps for encryption keys. We're spending bank-grade randomness on who takes the bins out. It's overkill.

We did it anyway, because a picker that isn't fair is just a slower way to argue, and "it's random, trust me bro" is what every rigged thing in history has said.

Accessibility is free, forever

Kuji tells fingers apart by pattern and position, not colour alone. A calm mode stills the drumroll and every animation in the app. Screen readers announce every control and every result.

The money bit

Kuji never shows you an ad. Not on the free tier, not anywhere, and not in eighteen months when money's tight and somebody suggests "just one banner". There's no account and no "continue with Google". Kuji Unsealed is one payment, never a subscription.

Free gives you the pick, two teams, one winner and three saved lists. Unsealed raises all of those and adds the palettes and the finer control. The pick itself is never for sale.

Pre-registering

Pre-register on Google Play. Play tells you the morning it opens, and installs it for you if you'd rather not think about it again. No beta, no invite code, no Discord to join.※2

iPhone? Not yet, and not on the 28th either. Kuji's built to run on both, but the iOS build isn't finished. Our waitlist will shout when that changes.

Friday the 28th. Let Kuji decide.
